Week 11 & 12- My First Transfer!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Sorry that I couldn't get an email sent last week, I got emergency transfered to a completely different town called Sunnyside and I've been so hyped. There's so much work to be done here and the area's so much bigger than my last area in Selah. My new companion and the two missionaries living with us are amazing and super happy people and they make every day a total blast!
Right before that however we were able to get Lincoln Mesplie baptized! Remember the pictures from us carving jack-o-lanterns over a month ago? That was him! He is 9 and is part of a family coming back to activity. His baptism really was awesome, especially because he was able to be baptized along with his sister Kennedy, who just barely turned 8 herself. Seeing families like the Mesplies completely change over short amounts of time and love really has been awesome! I can't wait to keep experiencing that in Sunnyside, my new area.
A little bit about Sunnyside though, it's about 30 minutes southeast of Yakima and it's at the very border of our mission. There's a massive spanish-speaking population here too, my and my companion, Elder Bagley, are the only English-speaking missionaries in our zone of about 20 missionaries! Sunnyside has a population of about 16,000 which dwarves Selah and it shows through it containing a Walmart and other grocery stores, several fast food joints, and other shops in a more downtown area as well. It's definitely more sketchy here, there were 10 homicides the week before I got here and I've already heard gunshots! But I know that God has my back as long as I'm taking part in his great work.
It's slightly less photogenic here so sorry in advance for the lack of photos, I'll make sure to do better with my next email. Things truly have been so crazy, I got told that I was being ETed with only half a day to even pack! But I know that God has my back in all of this. Seeing the circumstances here in Sunnyside and the many differences that it has compared to Selah, which I'll talk about a little bit more in my next email, really has helped me to know this is really inspiration from God to have me here. I know that this will push me in the ways that it needs to and I cannot wait to start learning more and more about this magnificent ward. Peace our everyone, I love you all to death!
With Love,
Elder Stephen Timothy
